Hey y'all. Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was packed. No MDS Monday today however. I think I got a little behind on my hydration yesterday as I was power washing and painting my front porch railings, because I ended up with a wicked migraine. I will try and get to it today.

Today's card is a special one I made for a special guy in my life. He loves to ride, so I got this stamp set specifically to make a card for him. I know it's retired, hope you won't hold it against me. This card fits the Sweet Stop Sketch Challenge. If you haven't checked them out yet, go on by when you get a chance. They have lots of great sketches.

Watercolored & Embossed Masculine Card with SU Motorcycle Stamp

This card is a first for me. This is the first card I've designed where I used my Aqua Painter and Watercolor Paper to create a watercolored image. I really enjoyed doing this and will be doing more. Ok, I enjoyed watercoloring the sky and grass. It was the rest of the focal point that gave me such grief. This was attempt #7. Ok, Ok, Ok, so my OCD was partially to blame. It took me a couple of tries to figure out that I needed to Heat Emboss my stamped image. Then it took another 4 tries to get the color for the bike just right.

Watercolored and Embossed Image, SU Motorcycle Stamp

My friend's bike is a beautiful, Royal Blue color, but we don't really have anything that color so I ended up mixing colors, finally settling on Not Quite Navy and Concord Crush layered together. I thought I might be able to use Pacific Point, but believe it or not, Not Quite Navy and Pacific Point look very similar to each other in watercolor.  After I got the color just where I wanted it, I colored over these spots with my VersaMarker and then applied Clear Embossing Powder and Heat Embossed to give the blue areas I glossy finish. I also tried (unsuccessfully) on one of the early attempts to use my VersaMarker & Pewter Heat Embossing Powder, to make some of the metal stand out. :(  I used Wild Wasabi for the grass and a mixture of Bashful Blue and Marina Mist for the sky. (I have to say I'm really excited by how this turned out!) I then sponged the edges with Not Quite Navy and Wild Wasabi. This panel was then popped up with dimensionals on my two colored panels, which were run through the Big Shot in my Lattice Embossing Folder.They were then mounted with dimensionals as well.

For the metallic background I used a piece of cardboard that comes with our DSP, covered it with our Glue Stick then adhered regular Aluminum Foil over it and ran it through my Big Shot with the same Lattice Embossing Folder. If you look closely you can see that even though both elements used the embossing folder, they are very different in appearance. I used the debossed side for the background and the embossed side for the Not Quite Navy and Wild Wasabi panels. I also lightly sponged over them to show make the embossing stand out a little more. The background panel was adhered with Tombow to a base of Night of Navy.

No inside to show you today. It's hard for me to do with most of my masculine cards. After I had mounted everything to the base I felt like something was missing....maybe some brads or something. Not sure. I still kind of feel like it needs something, but I'm ok with it missing whatever it's missing. At the end of the day what really matters is that my friend liked it and he did. I told him I felt like something was missing and he told me he loved it just like it was because I had made it for him. :) Hard to argue with that.

End of the Week Technique #35 - Brayered and Embossed Checkered Background

Hey y'all. It's Friday! (Oh Noes! I just said that to my self and now that awful "It's Friday" song is swimming around my head on auto-repeat! Help, someone quick...ear-worm!!!! AUGH ):  ) Oh well, I hope your week's been great and I haven't just shared my ear-worm with you. LOL :)

I have a really simple technique for you today. It can go from a simple background to a Wow focal point, depending on your color combinations and other card elements. I probably see this technique once a month or so during my blog reads. I first tried it last fall, with my upline Robin, I think it was at a team meeting, on a holiday card. I thought I'd try it today on a fun, bright, baby card.

Here's today's card-

Brayered and Embossed Checkered Background Baby Card
with Easy Events Stamp Set

I showed this to a friend the other day and she just loved it. I started with a base of Certainly Celery. Next came my checkered background using Certainly Celery and Daffodil Delight. I knotted a piece of our new stitched ribbon in Daffodil Delight and secured the ends under the card with a little SNAIL. My sweet little ducky is popped up with dimensionals. So quick and easy!

Here's what you need for this technique- Brayer, Big Shot, Stripes Embossing Folder, Ink Pads (I used two colors but you can also use just one color for a more tone-on-tone look) and of course cardstock, your choice of colors, I used Whisper White.

Here are the steps-

1- Pick out your colors. I chose two, but like I said you could choose one and it would still give a nice effect. (I'll try to do this soon and post it.)

2- Ink up your brayer with the first color and roll it on the inside cover of your Stripes Embossing Folder (this is the side that has "Sizzix" written on it. Make sure that you have even coverage on all of the raised portions.

3- Position your c/s, wherever makes you happy in the folder. (I lined mine up with the top and side so everything my lines would be straight, but then you all know I'm a "little OCD" hahaha) Carefully Close it and run it through your Big-Shot. Remove your c/s. 

4- Re-ink your folder. If you're going to use the same color, go ahead and re-ink your brayer. If you're changing colors, rinse your brayer and embossing folder, tap water is fine, until the water runs clear. This won't take long. Dry both well, then re-ink your brayer with your new color and ink the folder again.

5- Turn your c/s 90 degrees (1/4 turn), position your c/s and run it through again. You will now have the checkered, or plaid look you see above. Because I used such a large piece of c/s it didn't get colored completely when I ran it through, so I just inked it up again and moved my c/s up making sure to line up with the previously embossed areas so my spacing stayed even.

6- Enjoy your new background or accent piece. Smile when you think of the joy and smiles it will bring to the face of your card's recipient. (Always the best part for me!)

***TIP*** You may want to try running a piece of your c/s dry through your Big Shot with this embossing folder first. You may need to adjust which platform level you use on with your machine. I did this with one tab down. If you look real close, you can see a little "wrinkling, for lack of a better word" in some of the white spaces. I think my machine is a little tight. Everyone's is different. Next time I will do it with no tabs. It's still a beautiful card, but the OCD in me wants it perfect of course. :)

Easy Events Duck and Labels Framelet

How Stinkin' Cute is he?!? Love him. I stamped him in Staz-On  on a scrap of Whisper White c/s. If you look closely you can see the sentiment below him. I had actually intended for it to be seen, but my water turned out darker than I had planned. *blush* *SMH* Don't you love it when people post things that aren't "perfect" and then admit it?!? I know I sure do.  I used my second smallest Labels Framelet to cut him out. He fit perfectly. It makes me so happy when things work like that. I used my Blener Pends and Classic Ink Pads  to color. Here's what I used- So Saffron, Daffodil Delight, and Tangerine Tango for my little cutie-pie. Certainly Celery and Baja Breeze for the umbrella, Baja Breeze and Marina Mist for the hat and Marina Mist for the water. Once I had the water colored in though I realized I had made a little "Ooopsie" or as we like to say "I had created a design opportunity." What to do, what to do? Yep, I channeled my inner Pooh Bear. Think...Think...Think and not my inner Eyeore (Oh, Bother!) I had a lightbulb moment, love when those happen. Let Tink come out to play. Well I did and I think the results are fabulous. You can still make out the "for baby" if you look close, otherwise it just looks like extra shading in the water. "Thanks Tink!" 

Here's the inside-

The sentiment is from Petite Pairs. Seriously, if you only get one sentiment set, get this one. I use it all the time. I think it's probably one of my best stamp purchases. I actually mounted them both on the same block and stamped just one time. ***TIP***  If you do this, please make sure to do a test stamp on your grid paper (or other scrap paper) to ensure everything is lined up just like you want it. I got lucky and had it right the first time. Yea, Shan! My precious little froggy is from last year's Ronald McDonald set. It's retired now, but it wasn't when I made the card. I colored him in with Wild Wasabi, that was an In-Color when I first did Stampin' Up years ago. A little love from Tink and he's so handsome you just know he's really a prince.  If these two cute little fellas don't make you smile, well then I'm just at a loss.

Betsy's Blossoms -Clean and Simple

Hey y'all. Happy Thursday! I hope you're having an Amazing day and week. Just one more day to go till the week-end. *happy dance*

Today's card is one I designed for my recent New-Year's Open House. I got to introduce 3 old friends and 1 new one to the joys of stamping. Let me tell you, these girls stamped like they were old pros and they all had so much fun doing it! None of them thought they would be able to recreate this card and were all delighted by the beautiful cards they made.

My friend April often laughs at me and says I can't make a one-layer card. I tried to for my Open House, knowing there would be new stampers, and still couldn't manage it. I know later today April will be laughing. :D
Even though it's not one-layer, this is still a super simple card to make and would be especially good for beginners or a 2-4-5 type class.

Here's today's card-

Clean & Simple Card with Betsy's Blossoms,  Petite Pairs and New In-Colors

I am in L.O.V.E, LOVE with this set. It's so fab, lately I've had to make myself not pick it up and choose another set to play with. Know what else I love? The New In-Colors and the New Pads! LOVE Them! This card came together so quick, I was done before I knew it. :) I used Midnight Muse, Raspberry Ripple, Gumball Green and Summer Starfruit to stamp my images. For the tag I inked up & stamped my sentiment from Petite Pairs, added a few flowers and punched it out with my Decorative Label Punch. A little sponging around the edges and some dimensionals and the front was done. See, Easy-Peasy!

Here's the inside-

I stamped my flower in Raspberry Ripple, fussy cut it and then layered it over my stamped leaf image with my favorite adhesive, Tombow. As an after-thought I decided to let Tink have a little fun and added some Dazzling Diamonds to the center.

This was my Friend Julia's card. I think she did a great job for her first time to ever stamp. Don't you think so too? I love how she made it her own by changing up the colors. Way to go Jules!

Happy Birthday With a Cherry on Top Wine Bottle Tag / SFF 060112

Hey y'all. Happy Humpday! Just 2 more days till the wekend. Woo-Hoo!! :)

I've had a lot of friends (stamping and non-stamping) asking for me to make more "Wine-Bottle" tags. Of course they can be used for any kind of bottle, not just wine. Today's tag is one I did for my "New Year's" Open House to celebrate the new SU catalog. These are becoming more popular everywhere and there's even one featured in the new SU catalog, pg 14, as a gift idea with what looks like a bottle of Olive Oil. It also fits along with Sketch Frenzy Friday's current challenge.

Here's today's project-

Wine / Any  Bottle Tag Featuring With A Cherry on Top Hostess Stamp Set

Love these! This is a quick and easy project that would be great for classes/ stampcamps or workshops. 

Wanna know a secret? I didn't even use my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig on this!!!! How many of you that know me either from here or IRL are jumping up and down over that little fact? LOL!!!!!

I started with a base of Pool Party and then layered on Daffodil Delight and Whisper White c/s. I stamped the Glass Dome with White Craft Ink, the base with Pool Party Classic Ink and inked the sentiment with my Pool Party, Real Red and Garden Green Stampin Write Markers. I used my Scalloped Border Punch along the bottom to mimic the one on the cake stand. I however intended to (and forgot) to use my Paper Piercer and Mat Pack to punch holes in the border to carry the theme on even more. :(

Here's the sketch from those fine ladies over at Sketch Frenzy Friday-

Do you see it? I simply rotated the sketch, my stamped image is the central portion and my scalloped borders are the far right portion of the sketch.

Although it's hard to see in the pictures, I used Heat and Set Powder to add some Dazzling Diamonds to the domed portion to help it "shine" like glass and stand out a little more.

 

Oh, and a little shimmer on the cherry with my Two-Way Glue Pen and some Dazzling Diamonds. The only thing I would suggest if doing a tag like this with a scalloped border is to cut your cardstock a little longer than usual to account for the loss with the punch. All layers were adhered with Tombow.

Forever... Wherever... With You SFF 060112/ My Challenge #24

Hey ya'll. Happy Tuesday! I hope you're having a great day and week. My day started off spectacularly and now it continues with this card I've got for you. I am so excited about this card! I hope you will be too. :)

I got this new set Forever With You on pre-order before the catalog went live last week and I've already posted another card (totally different) from it. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to use the large sentiment in the set, but I loved the message of the set so went ahead and purchased it, on faith that I would fine plenty of uses. I have to say I already love the set and I love how this card turned out using the large sentiment.

Here's today's card-

Z-Fold card with Forever With You stamp set

Can I just say I Love, Love, Love this card! Oh! I hope you do too.

My inspiration/jumping off point was with this sketch from the fine ladies over at Sketch Frenzy Friday-

I took a little liberty with it and added an extra flourish to the left side to balance my card out. Otherwise though I think it's pretty true to the intent of the sketch.

I know some people think I let Tink have her way too often. Personally, I think that's hard to do. I didn't actually plan on the sparkle for this card. I was quite happy with it like this-

But, I really think the sparkle made it extra special. I started with a base of Pool Party for my Z-Fold and stamped the Forever sentiment in Island Indigo on Very Vanilla cardstock and matted it with a piece of Island Indigo. The interior piece is Very Vanilla as well. I inked the flourish in Island Indigo and Lucky Limeade and then stamped off once to get the muted design. Originally I had just the right side like the sketch and it looked ok, but I decided to add the one to the left side so it would "frame" my sentiment. A little Two-Way Glue Pen and some Dazzling Diamonds to just the flowers and they sparkle like dew drops in the moonlight. :)

Here's the inside-

I inked up my stamp with my Island Indigo Stampin Write Marker, stamped off once and then inked up the word "Wherever" again so it would stand out and stamped it. So easy. I also love that without the flowers around this sentiment  inked up, it seems like a totally different stamp. Love it! So versatile.

MDS Monday - My Happy Babies

Hey y'all. Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. I know I sure did. I went to the Crawfish Festival all day Saturday. YUM! It was Amazing. I realized, a little belatedly, that I got pics of all the food and none of my friends and myself. *SMH* Oh well, still good pics. Then late Saturday nite my friend Julia hit me up to see if I wanted to go to WMZQFest. My answer- DUH! She had an extra ticket and it was just my price-range...FREE! We had such a BLAST!!! Miranda Lambert, Lee Brice, Jerrod Nieman and Chris Young. So AMAZING! We were 8 rows back. I got a few pics there too. :) Thanks Jules!!!! Will try and post them soon.

Hey it's Monday, so you know that means MDS Monday and I'm actually getting to post it on time. Yea Shan!
Over at Utah Diva's the challenge was to use your pets. Well, I have plenty of pictures of my sweet little furry babies and found two for today. My babies have it really hard....sleep, play, snack, begin again. It's such a hard life they figure they might as well Grin & Bear it... Gee, I guess I should have used that for the title. LOL.

Are you smiling yet? If not, I just have one question for you. 

WHY in the world not!?! 

Lol. My babies are just so sweet. They are also my studio assistants and I featured them in my first Blog post, way back when (Holy Cow! Almost a year ago.) and others in-between now and then.

Duece (because he's the "second" of his name) is my big boy in the upper corner. Don't you just love his expression? Not sure how he got sooo fluffed out that day. Isn't he just the "Hasslehoff" of kitties. He wants to be "Big" when he grows up. HAHAHA. He's a Maine Coon and he's 16-17lbs and solid. He's over 3 feet tall when he stands up and can open any of the interior doors in the house. He scoffs at the thought of being locked up whenever anyone comes over. He just wants to love on you and is likely to jump up in your lap for some serious snuggling. Oh, and he thinks he's my guard dog. Yep, I don't need a doorbell, because he hears people coming up and runs to the door and howls. I kid you not, Barooooo. He's loud too, I can hear him in the driveway. Another fun fact- He likes to talk to me on the phone. Honest. So many people have heard him. My daughter used to call when she got home from school and she would put me on speaker and he would just sit there and chat with me. I love my sweet boy. I got him at the shelter when he was about 6 months old. His family lost their home and had to give him up. When I saw him he just looked a tiger-striped boy. I picked him up and he snuggled into my neck like a baby and I was totally lost. Never a second thought. He's almost 4 1/2 and I'm not sure who rescued who.

My sweet girl Bitty is in the bottom corner. I took this pic just last week. It's with her new boyfriend, Monkey. I promised not to tell her 6'2" bf (mine) she was kind of sweet on someone else. I'm a Scentsy consultant and this sweet little guy came in my starter kit. It came with a very masculine scent-pack and she couldn't be happier. He sits in the corner of my sleigh bed and every night she snuggles up next to him, ( I have my suspicions she snuggles with him during the day too) often putting her head on his lap. AWWWWWW, so sweet. Bitty's not even her real name but when I got her from the shelter she was sooo tiny only 2 1/2 pounds at 8 weeks old. The next week she got so sick we didn't think she would make it. She had a 106.7 degree temp and such a bad case of bronchitis/pneumonia she dropped to 1 1/2 lbs. She was not happy about sitting on that Ice Pack to get her temp down. She really hated the baby Neo-Synephrine drops I had to put in her nose and the humidifier. Needless to say she was soooo tiny then I started calling her Bitty Kitty and the name stuck. She's almost 4 now and there's not much  "bitty" about her. She is definitely one of those "You're my person" not an I'm your cat type of kitties. She allows me in her life because I pay for her house and toys. LOL, and I have the huge King-sized bed she likes to sheet surf on when they're fresh and snuggle under the covers in. Oh and course I make sure she has a hunky 6"2' bf that she thinks is there just for her and now Monkey too. What can I say, I'm a good mommy.

End of the Week Technique #34 -Side Step Card / Graduation Card #2 For My Girl A

Hey y'all. Happy Friday! It's overcast here in the DMV and we're expecting some strong storms to sweep through today. I hope it's warm and sunny wherever you are! Do you have plans for the weekend? I'm going to the Big Crawfish Festival tomorrow, so maybe I'll be able to do something Digital with that for next week. Do you like Crawfish? I Love them and wait till you see the amount of them and how they cook everything. Unbelievable!!! As much as I love crawfish (and the free beer that comes with it) in spirit I'll be in Colorado. A sweet, fun, young lady that I know will be graduating from High School and I'm so excited for her! I was trying to come up with a card for her and ended up with two and couldn't decide which one I liked best.What to do? I sent her both of course! Why not, it's not every day you graduate from High School. I showed you the first one earlier this week.

Here's the second one-

Side Step Graduation Card with Extra Card

Obviously her school colors are red and white. I wonder if she was curious why her dad was asking? This is actually two cards. Most of the card samples I saw didn't really have anywhere to write a note, well at least no-where private, so I decided to add a small matching card to this one. 

Here's the original card design-

I love this sentiment and thought it would be great for a graduation card. To add a little "something extra" to this I stamped the sentiment in Black Staz-On and then heat embossed it. I then inked the little arrow with my Real Red marker and Versamark, heat embossed it as well and then hand-cut it & popped it up for a little extra dimension. I just love the glossy look of it and how this portion turned out. I stamped it at the top of the c/s leaving room for a small picture if she wanted to put one with the card. The hats were fun & so easy to make. I punched out 1" squares and then cut cardstock into little fringes and attached them to the squares with mini-brads. I covered the mini-brads with Staz-On so they'd match the hats. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes. I punched it with my Word Window Punch and then matted it with a piece punched with my Modern Label Punch. Both the sentiment and the hats were all popped up with dimensionals.

Here's the matching card-

Very simple. I used a card base of Real Red and then added the other layers to create a gowned effect (at least I hope she thinks it looks like one) and then popped those layers up. You know I like to add a little something extra to the inside of my cards to make them pretty too. I added another cap & tassel to the inside, but wrote my note before I attached everything so no picture for you. :( Sorry. I have Horrible nurse writing and didn't want to risk attaching everything to the inside and then messing up the writing and end up making the whole card over again. LOL!

Before I give you the instructions for this technique I just want to give my girl a shoutout, just in case she checks this out-

Way to go Alex!!!!! SO excited for you. Enjoy your special day and everything that comes with it. You deserve it. I forgot to put in a coupon for Noms with your other card, so here's my I.O.U. for treats next time you're in town. Or, if you decide you need some before then, let me know and I'll "Food-Ex" them to you. I've got some new recipes I think you'll like. Congratulations!!!!! 

So here's what you need to make this style card- Cardstock, Paper Cutter, Scoring Tool ( I used my Simply Scored), Bone folder and stamps/DSP as desired for decoration

1- Cardstock cut at 5 1/2 x 81/2.

2- Score at 4 1/4 all the way across the c/s, This is your center fold.

3- On the short edge position your c/s at the 3 1/2 mark and cut from 1 1/4" to 6 1/4" this is all you need to cut. This will give you a 2" wide section to decorate. 

3- On the long edge score in to the cut line on the following marks- 1 1/4, 2 1/4, 3 1/4, 6 1/4. 

4- Fold at 4 1/4 and use your Bone Folder to make the fold crisp.

5- Fold on the other score lines starting up from the bottom and then use your bone folder to again make sure the lines are crisp.

6- Decorate the panels however you would like. The only limit is your imagination.

7-Smile when you see your finished card and think about the smile it will hopefully bring to it's recipients face.

I put off making one of these cards for the longest time, because I was afraid it was going to be difficult. It was definitely not hard and I will be making more of these for sure!

I really hope A enjoys her cards, although I have a sneaking suspicion she'll be more excited by the I.O.U. for noms. LOL! I love feeding that girl, cause she always enjoys my snacks. She's even been known to share a little. (And I do mean "a little!) What a girl! :)
