Hey y'all. Hope you're having a great day. Just a quick little post here. I found a cool challenge and just had to enter it. You know that never happens with me, right? Yeah, that's it. In fact I like it so much I'm posting twice today just so I can get it in, in time.
Have you been to The Friday Mashup! yet? I think this is the first time I've played along with them. They have cool weekly challenges where you have the option of two different design challenges or combining both. So, one was a color challenge...and if you don't know how I feel about those, read this. Let's just say I feel I'm pretty inept at them. However this challenge gave me the colors and the design idea so it was pretty hard even for me to mess up....I think. Why don't you have a look and let me know what you think.
Here's my challenge card-
Challenge Card featuring Olympic Rings |
Here's the challenge-
So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
I made the rings by punching a small circle, I think it was my 1' circle and then centering that inside the next size up and punching another circle. This gave me the rings. I first saw this technique here although I must have used bigger punches. I then snipped each "ring" so I could inter-twine them with each other in the "Olympic Rings" pattern and then used SNAIL (I know, gasps of disbelief are being heard around the blogging world!) to close them back up and secure them to each other so the cut section didn't show. Once I had them all lined up I ran the piece through my Big Shot with the Lattice E.F. Normally that embeds your pieces together enough that no other adhesive is needed. I must have had some SNAIL that stuck to the top of the folder because when I opened it up some of the rings came up too. I simply went back and applied a little Tombow to the edges of the rings and I can assure you, they're not going anywhere now!
You know I like to have a decorated inside too, so here's what I came up with-
I took one of my left-over rings and used it as a template to make another set of rings on the inside. I used the fine-tip point of the challenge colors and simply traced around the inside. I have to say I was pretty tickled with how it turned out. See the label with the sentiment? Yeah, that wasn't the original idea. I stamped that sentiment directly over the rings and it looked o.k. but it didn't stand out enough so I decided to try something else. I stamped it again and punched it out with my Decorative Label Punch. I then took the same markers and lightly edged the label, alternating the colors. I think it made for a cool effect. I then popped this up with Dimensionals and I was finished.
What do you think? I'm very happy with how it turned out. I hope the DT likes it too.
Well, that's all I have for you today. I'm headed out to girls night for dinner and Magic Mike! Woo-Hoo. I hope you liked today's card and I hope it inspires you to try something new.
